Define what was and is.

Before we even dive into the main subject we have to define what we mean by secular music-we’ll consider it as mainstream just to make it easier- and contemporary Christian music-we’ll abbreviate it to CCM. So what would be considered alternative? It is very hard to draw the line but it has been drawn by both sides. This has been a situation since the Middle Age. Some of these lines are very vague but when it comes to it the separation is there. So based on the general populace secular music is as we call it secular music. Music that is created for everyone, one that has no boundaries. These songs are as we called mainstream, they are popular and everyone listens to them. It goes from nation to nation and people do not criticize most of these artist for their writings, unless there bad. So what is CCM? It is music that deeply expresses artists’ personal belief and faith regarding the Christian life. Like stated previously CCM has been in this world for a while but it was not until the 1970s that the style was developed completely.  CCM and Mainstream have the same genres and listings played. They have the same chord progression, music theory, instruments, etc. Then what is the separation? Basically if you were to listen closely as some of the Mainstream songs can be heard to have the same function of CCM. The idea that songs create an impact on lives could be the reason why the separation happened. The question then is who started the separation and why did they create the separation? That is the question we’ll try to answer next time.
